Karin Sheer is an impressionist/abstract realist painter. She splits her time between Chicago, IL and Cincinnati, OH.

Background

As a child, Karin always loved to paint and draw. When she grew older, she got her degree from a Connecticut state college in Art Education, but never actually pursued a career in teaching. After her children grew older and she had more time, she began painting with oils. She learned a bit in college but is mostly self taught from experimenting with her own style and studying other artists’ work.

Process

Giving consideration to the importance of negative space, she usually works from photos she has taken. She typically works with oil paint on either canvas or gesso board. The abundant beauty found in nature is what fuels her desire to paint. From a shell or a piece of sea glass to the moon rising over water, the natural world is an endless source of inspiration.

Commissions

Karin welcomes commission projects, where she is provided with a photo and then injects her interpretation of color, composition, lighting. Some common commission subjects are dogs and landscapes. Contact her to learn more about the process and pricing.
